Recently, that now infamous picture of Jessica Simpson in the Mom Jeans, double-wide leopard print belt, and big gold hoop earrings nested in her mane of chemically treated blond hair, finally made it's way to my computer screen. Please don't ask how, let's just say when a lonesome blogger is feeling a bit randy and Googles the terms leopard print, big boobs and hoops he might not get what he asked for.
Well, this particular outfit made me think about some of Jessica's other clothing choices she has made over the years. I'm talking about the oversize sunglasses, the spacious metallic-colored handbags, the interesting jeans and suit jacket choices, etc. and of course, we can't forget that most of these looks are paired with a big, blond hairdo.
Anyway, I came to the realization that something about her fashion sense seemed very familiar somehow, like some sort of strange deja vu. I sat down this morning and really tried to think this through, I meditated on it as it were, and pondered just what it is about her outfits that is so familiar to me.
Finally...it came to me...like the Buddha under the Bodhi tree, it came to me!
She reminds me of my Aunt Ruth and her retired friends in Boca Raton and how they dress! My hand to God, really look at some of the outfits, and you'll see what I mean. She sincerely dresses like a youngish, Jewish housewife who's retired to Florida. If I didn't know her family was of some sort of Evangelical denomination or whatever, I would swear she was one of the Chosen People.
Here's the thing, I have to say, I dig that look,(Mom jeans excepted) there's something kind of cool and retro about the style. It feels authentic to me. I think Jessica goes absolutely wrong when she tries to wear all of the tight dresses and the see-through tops and crap, they are all a little too, shall we say, "goyish" for her inner Jewess. Granted, my Aunt Ruth wouldn't be caught dead in those jeans that she was wearing, but I do think she has that leopard belt. Ok, I KNOW she has that belt because I was with her when she bought it at Macys, which she still refers to as Gimbels, mind you.
So be proud Jessica, let your inner Jewess out, let your Magen David Flag fly, girl! And, if you ever need a shopping buddy, my Aunt Ruth is always available. L'Chaim!
